5 Summer Makeover Tips For Your Fridge

30 Jun

Summer’s finally here, and if you’re anything like me you’re going through a bit of a shift – filling your wardrobe with cool clothes, changing the tones of your make-up and pulling out those toe-revealing flip flops.

But while you’re adjusting all of those details, how about giving something else a summer makeover?

Your fridge!

Here are my top 5 tips for giving your fridge a summer makeover:

Cold water – there’s no better time to throw out the soda and chilled coffee drinks and replace them with cold, cold water.  We all know that water is important, but a lot of people don’t realise just how crucial water is.  Water helps regulate body treatment, provides the transportation for nutrients to reach your organs, transports oxygen to cells, removes waste, and protects joints and organs.  And did you realise that the colder your water is when you drink it, the more benefit it offers you?  It gives your body a refreshing burst of energy and boosts your metabolism, which is great for calorie burning… so your bikini will thank you.

Salmon – try switching some of your red meat intake to omega-3 rich salmon instead.  Salmon is a great source of protein and can help lower LDL cholesterol and raise HDL cholesterol (which is a good thing).

Berries – fruit really is nature’s pudding, and this summer you could enjoy some delicious puddings and get some great health benefits by choosing berries.  Berries consistently rank amongst the best foods for antioxidant protection, and are high in Vitamin C, folate, fibre and stacks of phytonutrients.  If you’re not sure what to do with your berries, why not try a quick and easy ice-cold berry smoothie?

Cucumber – cucumbers are a staple item in my fridge because my baby daughter adores them, and she seems to be onto a winner.  Cucumbers are a good source of potassium, magnesium and fibre, as well as Vitamin C.  This combination is especially good news for skin cleansing, which is important during the hot summer months of heat, sweat and even sand!

Courgette / zucchini – whatever you call it, this vegetable is absolutely packed with nutrients.  It’s a great source of Vitamins A, B and C, as well as potassium, phosphorous, magnesium, copper, folate, omega-3s, protein and manganese!

I will be bikin ready in not time as todays shopping featured all of those things. Just one question Katie, do you thinks it’s worth investing in a water filter. I suffer with constipation and possible a slightly underactive thyroid. I have heard that tap water can excacerbate these symptons. What’s your thoughts?

    Hey Jill

Ooh, good for you – sounds like a very yummy food shop!

I would definitely recommend getting a water filter. Even if the only contaminant in your tap water is chlorine – which is in all tap water – it’s worth the (pretty small) expense to avoid the chlorine alone, which is very damaging to the body. And chances are, your tap water contains other contaminants as well, I believe the up-to-date average is around 10 chemicals.

Bottled water is really being questioned right now as many brands are no better than tap water, just more expensive and convenient when you’re on the go.

This site has a comparison table that might help you choose a filter: http://www.waterfiltercomparisons.com/water_filter_technologies.php

    Thanks,
    Katie
