Well Tracy, there are definitely some foods that you should be avoiding to help your ulcerative colitis, and here they are:
- high fiber foods
- carbonated drinks
Colitis is an inflammation of part of the large intestine and is often caused by stress. However, it can also be caused by poor diet, allergies or nutrient deficiencies.
Your first step should be to avoid any substances that may be causing the inflammation, including alcohol, coffee, spices and wheat. Replace these with steamed vegetables, rice, fish and fruit which will pass through the digestive tract easily. These will form the basics of the diet you should follow, limiting wheat and choosing fruit as snacks. You should drink plenty of water to cleanse the body, and should strictly avoid all stimulants.
If you do not suspect any specific foods of causing irritation, consult a nutritionist who will be able to identify any allergens and advise you of the best course of action.
Supplements will be very important in allowing your body to return to good health. The exact supplement programme will vary from person to person – for yours, just contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org
